Group Sessions
Hello! I love words. But when asked to express what I do as succinctly as possible, I usually say this:
I’ve yet to find a team who hasn’t been excited about discovering their strengths. And, there are decades of research to help understand the benefits. For example, people who invest in their strengths are:
- 6x as likely to be engaged in their jobs
- 6x as likely to strongly agree that they have the opportunity to do what they do best every day
- 3x as likely to report having an excellent quality of life
Here are some of the types of groups I’ve had the opportunity to encourage so far.
Your family is the first opportunity your kids have to practice being a part of a team!
Pulling together a group of students to talk about their strengths is a phenomenal way to encourage and equip them for the next educational or vocational steps.
Discovering your strengths together, helps the team bond and perform better both on and off the court. It also provides a common language to talk about talents.
Chatting about each other’s strengths over a meal or a glass of your favorite beverage is a fun, encouraging, and productive way to spend an evening! It helps you learn more about yourself and one another.
Studying how you’ve been uniquely gifted helps further anchor your identity to your Creator, increases your ability to collaborate with a body of believers, and unites you around a central purpose.
Exploring strengths with your colleagues helps break down barriers while giving you a common language for professional development. It also increases engagement, retention, and productivity.
Your team has competence.
Invest in their strengths to build confidence.
Team sessions are scoped and priced according to the needs of the team.
Frequently Asked Questions About Group Sessions
Our group is not meeting in person. Can these be delivered successfully over Zoom?
Absolutely! In fact, since March 2020, I’ve primarily facilitated remote sessions via Zoom and they have been overwhelmingly successful. Instead of receiving their strengths in the form of a “table tent,” participants receive an image containing their strengths to use as a virtual background. The screen capture below demonstrates how that background displays in the Zoom meeting.
We’d like to add a strengths workshop to our team building event. How does it work when an event requires you to travel?
A strengths workshop is perfect for a team building event, whether as part of an on-site exercise or an off-site retreat. The only session not available for in-person booking outside of Southern California is the introductory Discovering Strengths workshop. In addition to the booking fee listed above, the host company agrees to pay roundtrip airfare to/from San Diego, Orange County, or LAX, rideshare to/from the departure and arrival airports, overnight accommodation, and meals. Airfare costs and a 50% of the booking fee are due upon booking; all other costs are invoiced upon completion of the event. Contact me to discuss the details.
I’d like to do this with my colleagues. Which session is best?
One of the beauties of introducing strengths to your workplace team is in giving them a common language to talk about their collaboration that is built on positive psychology. So, even the initial Discovering Strengths has significant value. I prefer to work backward, by first determining the goal of the event and then selecting the workshop that most closely achieves that goal. Because we tend to benefit more from repeated conversations about the same topic, I’ve found teams really grow from multiple strengths touchpoints over a 12-month period. This might happen, for example, in the form of two group sessions and two individual coaching sessions.
I also offer a 12-week package that includes weekly sessions with your team to take them “From Competence to Confidence.” We can also develop a custom session or session series, according to your team’s specific needs.

What do you need to prepare for a session?
All participants must complete the CliftonStrengths assessment and I need to receive those results at least seven days prior to a remote session, or 10 days prior to an in-person event.
For workplace teams only—I also request an org chart and any information relevant to determining the best pairings for participants during group activities. I will prepare a folder of resources to share with your team one day before the start of the workshop.
For all remote sessions—participants will be asked to download a custom virtual background to be used during the Zoom meeting. I will also provide a Zoom and/or Miro link for the virtual session.
How long do group sessions last and how often do you meet?
Workplace sessions with large groups typically last between two and six hours, depending on the topics being covered. While I have held single-session meetings with many workplace teams, I’ve also met with other teams several times during a team retreat, for example, or on a quarterly or semi-annual basis as part of their professional development program.
Sessions with families and friends are typically 90 minutes at a time. We can meet once, or more often, as desired.
What do you charge?
In general, my rates for workplace teams depend on the length of the program, the location, and the number of participants. I offer a discount on group sessions for registered non-profit organizations. To get a quote for your workplace team, schedule a free conversation with me.
Non-workplace sessions are much less formal and smaller. They also do not include any prep (with the exception of taking the assessment) or homework. For a group of 4-6 friends, for example, each person pays $30 for a 90-minute session.
*Rates are subject to change and do not include the cost of taking Gallup’s assessment (I am happy to facilitate the distribution of Gallup codes to your team, as needed. Rates for this can be negotiated at the time of contracting.)
You mentioned “creation” on this site. What if I’m interested in strengths but not in having a conversation about faith?
No problem. I’ve led workplace sessions with teams from all sorts of organizations, such as a large fast food chain (not a faith-based one), several social service non-profits (some faith-based and some not), a software company, a marketing firm, a management group, and several churches. And I’ve met with family and friend groups from across a wide variety of demographics. The only sessions in which faith is discussed are those whose leaders specifically ask for that topic to be included.
This all looks great, but how do I convince my boss/leader to approve this?
I’ve yet to find a team who hasn’t been excited about discovering their strengths. And, Gallup has decades of research to help leaders understand the benefits. For example, managers who invest in their employees’ strengths see the following benefits for the team:
- 6x as likely to be engaged in their jobs
- 6x as likely to strongly agree that they have the opportunity to do what they do best every day
- 3x as likely to report having an excellent quality of life
- 15% less likely to quit their jobs

Group Session Topics
Discovering Strengths

The Best of Me
This follow-up session builds upon on the content from the introductory workshop, with expanded discovery about where our strengths come from and what can prevent us from living our strengths well. There is additional time for activities in which participants learn about other’s strengths while becoming more comfortable articulating their own. This can be delivered in one half-day workshop or broken up over two, two-hour workshops. Participants must have completed the CliftonStrengths assessment and received results for at least their “Top 5 Strengths” Full 34 access is recommended. [Remote/in-person.]
Maximizing Strengths in Teams
This session delves deeper into the psychology of strengths and explores how the full profile of 34 strengths shapes each person to fulfill their unique goals. In addition, strengths are explored across the team, to identify how individuals can best work together to further team goals. Participants must have completed the CliftonStrengths assessment and received results for their full profile of 34 strengths. [Remote/in-person.]

In addition, their team members must have also completed the assessment and received results for at least their “Top 5 Strengths.” [Remote/in-person.]

Identity + Strengths
For faith-based groups, I can facilitate a discussion about your anchoring your identity in scriptural truth, and how that impacts living your strengths.
ACEs + Strengths
For trauma-informed groups, I can facilitate a discussion about how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) impact your ability to live your strengths. This add-on works well with the Hurts + Strengths add-on.
Hurts + Strengths
For trauma-informed groups, I can facilitate a discussion about how our hurts, habits, and hang-ups can impact our ability to live our strengths. This add-on works well with the ACEs + Strengths add-on.
Emotional IQ + Strengths
Your strengths give you an amazing set of tools to help develop your Emotional Intelligence (EI). In this session, we discuss ways to strengthen our EI muscles to be more effective in interpersonal relationships.
